Training Class Homework

With school starting many of our schedules change.  What is your plan to provide your dog with the excersize, training, and attention they need in the coming months?  Please post your answer in a comment below, it may help someone else!

  1. The start of school in addition to work definitely makes our schedule busy, but "a tired dog is a good dog," and our dog (and us!) is happier and more fit when she gets exercise. My boyfriend walks our dog in the morning and I walk her in the evening, that way it isn't too demanding on either of us. Training comes right after the walk/before meals. Another great way to exercise our dog is through play; either playing ball or tug (or having her chase a toy up and down the stairs), or letting her play with another dog are great ways to wear her out faster. And of course she gets plenty of attention by being with us in everything we do, even if it means snuggling on the couch while I study. I also try to set aside half an hour before bed for each of us to wind down and spend some quality time together.

  2. My dog provides the perfect excuse to make sure I leave work at a reasonable time (Everyone knows I need to leave to feed the animals and let the dogs out). We try to follow much the same routine as we did in the summer. She gets to run and exercise while i feed horses (both morning and night) and there is playtime after breakfast and before dinner. Weekends are when we get the most exercise--four hour horseback rides take the edge off.
